Roof Trusses in East London and the Eastern Cape: Prices, Wind Design and Delivery

Building in East London, Gqeberha, Komani, Mthatha or anywhere else in the Eastern Cape and need roof trusses? This guide covers what to expect from our East London plant, what affects the price, and how to get a free quote.

Roof trusses made in East London

Truss Master Eastern Cape is based at Unit 4, Da Gama Industrial Park, Voortrekker Road, Arnoldton, East London. The plant opened in 2021 and has a team of 18 people. It makes timber roof trusses designed on MiTek software, and we are ITC-SA accredited. We deliver across the whole Eastern Cape with a 12-ton truck and a horse and trailer, so large and awkward loads can reach sites a long way from the coast. Our KwaZulu-Natal plant also delivers into the province, which helps on sites in the north-east.

What do roof trusses cost in the Eastern Cape?

As a rough national guide, the timber roof structure for a house (trusses, battens and bracing) usually costs somewhere between R250 and R650 per square metre of roof area before the roof covering. Read our roof truss price guide to see how that range is built up. In the Eastern Cape, the things that most often change the price are:

  • Wind design: exposed coastal sites may need heavier bracing and tie-downs.
  • Roof shape and span: simple gables cost less than roofs with hips, valleys and several levels.
  • Delivery distance: the province is large, and a site in the Transkei or the Karoo edge costs more to reach than one in East London.
  • Volume: builders and developers can open a trade account.

Designing for coastal wind and weather

Gqeberha is known as the Windy City for good reason, and the coast from Gqeberha to East London takes strong winds off the sea. Further inland, places like Komani and Qonce are hotter in summer, and storms can be sharp. The roof needs to hold down against uplift: good truss connections, correct bracing and proper tie-downs from the trusses to the walls. Our guide to truss spacing, pitch and bracing shows what your engineer will check, and our regulations guide covers sign-off under SANS 10400-L. Our guide to roofs and the Cape wind explains the same principles for a windy coast.
