Roof trusses made in Bloemfontein

Truss Master Free State is at 6 Tannery Road, Hamilton, Bloemfontein, on the same premises as Luxor. The plant opened in 2022 and has a team of 15 people who make three to four complete roof sets a week, depending on size. We are accredited with MiTek and ITC-SA, and we design your roof on MiTek software. We deliver up to 500 km from Bloemfontein on our own 8-ton truck, and we arrange specialist transport and an escort for long-span trusses that need it.

What do roof trusses cost in the Free State?

As a rough national guide, the timber roof structure for a house (trusses, battens and bracing) usually costs somewhere between R250 and R650 per square metre of roof area before the roof covering. Our roof truss price guide explains how the range is built up. In the Free State, the main price drivers are:

  • Span: farm sheds, workshops, church halls and school buildings often need wide clear spans, which means heavier trusses or steel.
  • Delivery distance: the province is large, so tell us the site town early.
  • Roof shape: a simple gable is cheaper than a roof with hips and valleys.
  • Transport: long-span trusses may need specialist transport and an escort.

Designing for the Free State climate

The Free State has hot summers, cold dry winters and sharp frost, and the temperature can swing by 20 degrees or more between night and day. Thunderstorms are common in summer. Three things follow for your roof:

  • Movement: metal sheeting expands and contracts through the day, so fixings and flashings must be done properly.
  • Insulation and ventilation: a well-insulated ceiling saves heating costs in winter and keeps the house cooler in summer.
  • Wind and storm loads: correct bracing and tie-downs matter on open, exposed sites. See our guide to truss spacing, pitch and bracing.

For farm buildings and industrial roofs, ask about steel. Our timber vs steel guide explains when each one makes sense, and the regulations guide covers sign-off.
